Indian Street Food

Making their debut on our menu at Newport Market, our ‘Doolally Dawgs’ are a nod to our 2025 road trip where we stumbled upon a very remote village called Deolali in Nashik. This dish is inspired by the deep history of British rule in India.
The slang word ‘doolally’ or ‘doolali’ is used to describe someone as ‘out of one’s mind’ or ‘crazy’. Derived from ‘Doolali-tap’ and dating back to the late 19th century, the phrase originates from the name of a small military town – later a transit camp for soldiers – in Deolali, Nashik in Maharashtra. Soldiers stationed there, often facing long waits for a troop ship home, were said to suffer from the extreme heat of the Indian summers, sometimes leading to them going ‘stir crazy’.
The second part of the phrase, ‘tap’, is a Hindustani word for fever, commonly associated with malaria. However, in Sanskrit, ‘tapa’ simply means heat or torment. Taken literally, ‘Doolali-tap’ can be translated as ‘camp fever’. By the time of the Second World War, the phrase had become a widely used slang term and was eventually shortened to ‘doolally’.
Wild, indulgent, and just a little bit OTT – the KK ‘Doolally Dawg’ is a bold, American-style smoked hot dog topped with ‘Doolally’ kheema masala, made using garam masala from Nashik. It’s a dish that truly makes people go “doolally”!
A true crowd favourite, the Raj Burger is where bold Indian flavours meet classic burger indulgence! Inspired by the British Raj era and a kitchen experiment, this masterpiece was born when Cally decided to enjoy Krish’s curry with a brioche bun – only for Krish, being Krish, to take it up a notch with a cheesy brioche bun. And just like that… the ultimate Indian-fusion burger was created!
This burger features smoked Kerala-style chicken masala, layered with homemade mint, mango & coriander chutney, Bombay mayo, and drizzled with rosemary cheese sauce & sweet tangy chili ketchup, all perfectly sandwiched in a soft brioche bun.
One bite, and you’ll know why this burger reigns supreme!
Cutting it in half is optional 😉
Back in 2018, we took a “research trip” to Kerala, India – Krish’s homeland, famously known as God’s Own Country for its stunning coastline and breathtaking mountains.
On this adventure, we found ourselves at St. Ignatius Church in Fort Kochi, where we met the incredible Father Franco (or as we fondly call him, Father Frankie!). His warmth was unmatched, and when he unexpectedly hosted us for lunch, we knew we were in for something special. With no time to prep, he worked his magic – grabbing a Keralan parotta, stuffing it with flavour-packed beef masala, homemade pickle, and crunchy peanuts… and BOOM! The inspiration for Frankie’s Wrap was born.
Trust us – you don’t want to miss this one. (Psst… try it with our Keralan curry sauce!)
The name says it all… “It’s like a disco party in my mouth!” That’s exactly what one of our favourite customers exclaimed when she first tried our new version of loaded fries. We couldn’t have put it better ourselves, so it headed straight to our menu!
When we introduced Disco Fries, we had no idea they’d develop such a cult following. But trust us, they did – big time! These legendary fries have become a KK fan favourite, and the limited times that they’ve not been available, let’s just say… we seem to get some seriously angry looks!
One bite, and you’ll understand the hype. Are you ready to join the Disco Fries revolution?
Q: So, how do you like these fries, sir?
A: Every bite is like a magic explosion of flavours!
And just like that, Masala Magic Fries were born!
We took crispy golden fries, tossed them in our KK signature blend of bold Indian spices, and drizzled them with mouthwatering sauces to create the ultimate flavour-packed experience. One bite, and you’ll see why these fries are nothing short of magic!
